I mentioned in my Friday Favorites a week ago how much fun my girlfriends and I have had at Westport Whiskey and Wine classes. This past Friday, three of us signed up for "Date Night: Champagne and Chocolate." The class was a pretty even mix of couples and girlfriends, and I think everyone had a great time.
This was my second class with portfolio specialist Gaelyn Park and she again did not disappoint! We got to taste 8 champagnes, the Brut and the Rose of each label, all within the Moet portfolio.
I am a big nerd and took a lot of notes, asking Gaelyn to go back and tell us the percentage of each grape used in the champagnes. I think people thought this was a little funny (and dorky) at first, but by the third glass everyone was joining in! Learning is fun!
I've learned that I tend to prefer champagnes (and sparkling wines) that are heavier on the Pinot Noir grape - like my favorite: Veuve Clicquot. Speaking of Veuve - you've probably been saying it wrong. I know I was. Gaelyn explained that its Veuve, rhymes with Love. It means widow in French. Veuve Clicquot has a super interesting, GIRL POWER story. Madame Clicquot was widowed at 28 and took over her husband's vineyard. She made the brand what it is today! I will be downloading the book The Widow Clicquot and if anyone wants to get me a present (since its No Shop February) this beautiful tome would be much appreciated.
We also got to try a delicious label I had never seen before. Domaine Chandon Etoile comes in a gorgeous bottle AND the brut tastes like heaven.
We also got some adorable heart chocolates from Cellar Door Chocolates to snack on! All in all, a super fun bubbly night!
