We are just about 2 weeks into 2018, the new year is settling in and the sense of starting fresh is still around. This year, I wanted to try something a little different for Friday Favorites. I will still include links to my favorite things to purchase, but I want to add in a few things.
For example, I want to start adding in what I'm reading. I am a literary omnivore: I love it all. Actual literary classics, trashy romance novels, murder mysteries, and of course Harry Potter.
Speaking of Harry Potter, I am obsessed. If you haven't read all of the books, I strongly suggest you do. You can order the paperback boxed set from Target or the entire Kindle set (I think it is also available on Amazon Prime!). Over my trip to Connecticut, I devoured the newest addition to the Harry Potter Universe: Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. If you aren't a huge Harry Potter fan, you may be a little confused by the book - but the storyline holds up and the fact that it is in a play format was a nice change of pace.
It is cold and snowy here in the Kentucky (and many parts of the country..) and I couldn't live without a few of my favorite things. They may not be traditional snow boots, but I've found that wearing a pair of thick socks with my Hunter Boots makes it MUCH EASIER to walk the dogs and shovel in the snow. They seem expensive for rainboots but I am still wearing the pair I purchased in 2008 to walk to and from the Bethesda Metro in the snow and rain. Just saying. I've also become addicted to these super soft Isotoner mittens. Target has a ton of prints and they are so much warmer than my usual gloves!
Two gadgets I can't live without lately are my new Fitbit Alta HR and the Instant Pot. I've been a Fitbit devotee for a long time, but the thinner Alta HR has knocked my socks off. I just ordered some of the cute bands to make it look more like jewelry too! It is currently on sale as well! I got my Instant Pot for Christmas (yay adult presents!) and have already used it an embarrassing amount of times. I make pulled chicken to put in my salads, soups, and veggie dishes and it keeps for DAYS.
Despite the cold, I feel like I am chronically dehydrated. A major goal for me in 2018 is to up my water intake. I found the 40 oz Stanley cup that fits in my car's cupholder and I'm addicted. I've even gotten a friend addicted (Hey, Tam!). It keeps things cold for 48 hours! When you don't want things cold, this adorable Sip by Swell coffee travel cup with a DOG PRINT is my jam (thanks Renee and sweet Lillian!). I love the ONE spotty dog, makes me giggle everyday.
Finally, I used to avoid drying my hair like the plague. I would let it airdry for hours and then still face 15 minutes with my hair dryer and then straightener or curling wand. My sister turned me on to the Dyson Hair Dryer. It is stupidly expensive, but it lives up to the hype. From post wash wet, my hairdresser (a PROFESSIONAL) dried my hair in 24 minutes. With this bad boy I am done and don't usually HAVE to use any tools within 8 minutes. LIFE CHANGING. I bought mine from Sephora (more VIB points!) and it came with a sweet Ouai product set. I am a product junkie, so naturally I had to try them out. The hair oil SMELLS SO GOOD and makes my hair so soft and manageable!
The cold also makes me crave red wine. Lately I've been ALL ABOUT the Cabernet Sauvignon. One of my favorites is FitVine which I originally bought as a joke (skinny wine that tastes good? Never thought it would happen) but then went back and bought out my Kroger Wine Store's supply. I haven't met a Cab I didn't like, what are some suggestions?
That is it for this week's Friday Favorites! I hope the new structure will keep things a bit more interesting! I aim to include what I'm reading, watching, listening to, eating, wearing and more!
