Yowza, it's been a rough couple weeks. I will get to my thank yous to my amazing friends later this week, but first I wanted to give an update on my sweet Willie.
This past weekend, I arrived home from the Make A Wish Gala to find Willie in the basement (where he never goes) unable to meet me at the top of the stairs. I realized he was whimpering and limping. His little patellas are luxated so I thought perhaps he was having a bad episode. I picked him up, let Dingo out of his "condo" (aka the laundry room) and took them outside for a potty.
The limping didn't get better, just more pathetic. Using my dog lady knowledge I felt along his leg and realized the tendon in the back felt "loose." In the morning, I called my vet and asked to come in. Mind you, I also needed to be at the Louisville Marriott East to help set up for The Kentucky Humane Society's Tuxes & Tails. I dropped Willie at the vet, as they were going to work him in and proceeded to go set up.
The vet called with the news: she thought Willie had torn his CCL - basically his doggy ACL. She prescribed some pain meds and restricted movement and referred me to a surgeon. I called right away and Dr. Josh Bruce at BluePearl Veterinary Services was able to get Willie in for a consult early Monday morning!
At the vet, Willie made the staff laugh with his usual good nature and ridiculousness. Dr. Bruce was able to schedule Willie's surgery for that afternoon! I gave him love and kisses, tried not to cry and let the sweet tech take him back. They did some X-rays and confirmed he had torn his ACL as well as shredded his meniscus. Into surgery he went - where good news! He didn't have to have his patella re-done! Dr. Bruce called me to assure me Willie was doing well and Willie spent the night at the vet for observation.
Tuesday morning, I picked the little gremlin up at 11am. I am in AWE of the amount of love my friends and family have shown me and the tiny guy. Homemade dog crack cookies (recipe forthcoming from HerKentucky.com) and flowers from Auntie Heather, flowers from the Squad (thanks Aunties Court & D!), and his favorite treats from Auntie Ash. AND my sweet neighbor, who also happens to be Ashley's dad, texted me early to see if he could have Dingo over for a playdate with his dog to help me wear him out! More on this outpouring of love later this week!
Willie is recuperating, but its pretty sad and pathetic. He is on restricted movement for a month - which to be honest he isn't that pissed about missing his walks with his brothers. His tramadol makes him a dopey funny little dude. His brothers are cracking me up - they are so very sweet. Anytime he cries, Chico comes running and licks him and Dingo brings him a different toy. Be still, my heart!
In case anyone was wondering, his play pen is front and center in the living room and will be for the foreseeable future. It is pretty obvious who the little prince is in this family.
Notice the flowers in the background!
We also upgraded to the soft donut to keep him from licking because the cone was just so pathetic! Thank you for all the love and good wishes!!!!!
