I am a huge fan of all things wine and summer. But, I have to admit... sweet frozen drinks make me run for the hills. I was admittedly skeptical of frosé when I first heard about it. As a fan of warm weather rosé, I was upset that people would want to make it a syrupy concoction.
Then I read a recipe and realized, "I can adapt this. I can make it not sickeningly sweet!" So, I experimented on my usual subject, my sweet cousin/baby sister Haley. I figured she's young and kind - even if it sucks, she will drink it because who are we to waste good rosé?
On our first pool day of this summer, I broke out the rather ghetto blender at my parents. As with all my recipes, the first step is totally unfounded confidence that I know what I am doing. (By the way, this is a usual parameter of my life. I don't usually have much of a clue what I'm doing, but assume things will work out and somehow they usually do. Blind confidence of the ignorant, nothing like it.)
I put some ice in the blender and poured in a liberal amount of a somewhat cheap rosé. I blended and realized that it was missing something. I re-consulted my real recipes and decided to raid my mom's fridge for frozen berries. I found a bag of unsweetened frozen strawberries and threw some in. For good measure, I added 2 individual packets of stevia - mostly because I found it funny that my parents had individual packets of anything.
Let me tell you; YUM. The result was a not super sweet, rather refreshing heavenly mix. Haley downed hers and sweetly asked, "Were you going to make more frosé?" So naturally, we did.
Clearly, Willie enjoyed the attention as well..
